You all know the old line “The capitalists will sell us the rope we hang them with”. It’s attributed variously to Lenin, Stalin and old Beardo the Weirdo himself, Karl Marx, but no one really appears to have said it.

Attribution is academic anyway, as it’s the thought that counts. What’s really concerning is that the thought is becoming practice here in Australia, according to the latest Extinction Rebellion communique:

What will Willox’s work enable Extinction Rebellion to do:

Let’s just repeat that key point:

If business sees this disruption as an opportunity to manage their medium-term risk by decarbonising our economy, half the work is done for us. We are freed up to use our rebellion to make sure this ‘green’ recovery is as radical, just, participatory and far-reaching as we know it needs to be.

And the absolute kernel:

We are freed up to use our rebellion to make sure this ‘green’ recovery is as radical, just, participatory and far-reaching as we know it needs to be.

It’s not what you expect a long-serving Howard government staffer to do.

Do AI members know what their boss is up to, selling extremists the rope they will use to hang them with?
