‘Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom.’

Breaking across social media this morning is the ghastly news that 26-year-old Iranian protestor, Erfan Soltani, is scheduled to be publicly hanged by a crane in 36 hours (January 14, Iran time) by the Islamic Republic.

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) warns of immediate protestor executions.

To date, it is alleged that up to 12,000 Iranians have been massacred by the Republic in the last two days and thousands injured.

In order to silence the building anti-government protests, the Republic placed an internet blackout on January 8.

This purposeful decision to disarm communication, instil panic and confusion, is making it hard for organisations, diplomats, and journalists to verify accurate detail and information as to what is taking place.

It also violates basic human rights of freedom of speech – Iranians cannot communicate with friends, family, call for help, and access urgent support.

It is alleged that Erfan Soltani was arrested last Thursday in Fardis, Karaj, at a protest and has been charged with being a ‘ring leader’ in the demonstration – as such, for standing up for his democratic right to protest, his life is now at risk.

IHRNGO expresses grave concern about the escalation and continuation of the killing of protesters, and the risk of mass executions and calls for an immediate response from the international community.

This is an urgent call to the West to rally behind Iran’s demand for self-determination and freedom of oppression by the Regime. Brave women are removing their hijabs and burning them in defiance of decades of Sharia law.

On November 27, 2025, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was listed as a state sponsor of terrorism. The Australian Government outlined that they were committed to taking this matter very seriously by passing the Criminal Code Amendment (State Sponsors of Terrorism) Act 2025, which grants the government new framework to respond to state-sponsored terrorism.

‘This listing is a reminder that terrorist activity does not stop at our borders. The Australian government continues to work closely with international partners to combat terrorism and violent extremism globally.’

Tony Burke, Minister for Home Affairs, said: ‘Listing of the IRGC is in direct response to the despicable actions of the Iranian government, and furthermore empowers our police, security, and intelligence agencies to stamp out hatred and violence.’

If our leaders are able to make such a bold stance against the IRGC and the Iranian government, where is their leadership on the Iranian protests? Where is our Prime Minister? Where is our Foreign Affairs Minister? Is outrage selective?

Why aren’t universities swarming with passionate youth chanting, ‘Free Iran!’? Why aren’t mass demonstrations occurring across all major cities in support of these courageous people revolting against the regime? Why aren’t social media influencers including the traditional Iranian flag in their bio?

These are time-sensitive calls for the international community to put pressure on the Regime to stop the public execution of Erfan Soltani.

By saying his name and making him go viral, this spotlights the vile acts that the Regime seeks to hide in darkness.

According to Attorney, Elica Le Bon, the Regime may stop the execution if the international community finds out about their intentions and condemns them publicly.

According to Le Bon, the Regime fears international backlash, humiliation, and possible sanctions – this tactic of calling out the regime has allegedly worked in the past to stop public executions.

We will say his name: Erflan Soltani.
