Never able to keep herself from the spotlight for long, Meghan is back on Instagram. After her Archetypes podcast series failed and her previous blog The Tig bombed, the Queen of Privacy is embarking on a new venture. Now, the Duchess of Sussex is launching a lifestyle brand which she plans to use to resurrect her image by selling cookbooks, tableware and, er, marmalade.

Eagle-eyed social media users were quick to spot a brand new Instagram account called ‘American Riviera Orchard’ this week, the biography reading: ‘By Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.’ The account name is thought to be inspired by the location of Meghan and Harry’s luxury dwelling in Montecito. What’s more, the launch of the Duchess’s brand will come at the same time as a new Netflix cookery show, with which the Sussexes have a content deal. Coincidence much?

The Duchess seems to have been inspired by her husband’s book Spare, a memoir that sold almost 1.5 million copies in its first day — and went on to, er, blow up rather spectacularly in the face of its author. Clearly keen to shake off the ‘f***ing grifter’ tagline the couple was lumped with last June, it transpires that Meg is also planning to write a ‘book and a blog’, according to a Mail source, who added that she ‘will be making, and selling, products such as jams.’ What a treat…

Though the monarchs of Montecito struggle to keep to themselves for any length of time, they are not avid social media users. In fact, Meghan even complained to the The Cut magazine in a 2022 interview that the royal family’s social media use was restrained by strict rules. ‘There’s literally a structure by which if you want to release photos of your child, as a member of the royal family, you first have to give them to the royal rota,’ she grumbled. Not if you want to run them through Photoshop first apparently…

Is marmalade the key to repairing the Sussexes relations with palace and public? Mr S isn’t convinced. Their new PR guru will have to try harder than that…
