I’m sorry to hear of your experience. I too was the victim of an unprovoked physical assault as i walked down the street late at night. There was no sense to it, I was picked on by two men I had never met for no other reason than they had the opportunity to attack because I was alone. It took months for the physical injuries to heal, and 15 years later the trauma lives on. I have lost confidence in myself, I have no social life and leave the house as little as possible. I am unable to go anywhere after dark. This was a “hate crime” too. They hated their fellow human being. They declared me “less” as a human being because they thought they were entitled to beat me senseless. Whether it had a “reason” like my dress code, my height, my whiteness is irrelevant. It’s still nasty, hateful criminality from scum. There’s no reason why my attackers should be treated any more leniently than the person who assaulted you.
