As Labour MPs carry on tearing bits out of each other, the story of Nigel Farage’s £5 million gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne rumbles on in the background. The latest development? The cash wasn’t just a helping hand with security. It was also, according to Farage himself, a ‘reward for campaigning for Brexit’.

In an interview with the Sun, the Reform leader declared he ‘is not the least bit concerned’ about the Commons sleaze watchdog launching a probe into the money. He said constituents in Essex ‘don’t care’ about the debacle and he’s armed to the hilt with ‘good lawyers and good accountants’.

The most eye-popping revelation however, was the change in narrative from solely ‘the money was for security’ to the gift also being a big Brexit bonus. Farage explained:

It’s very unusual for someone to give up 27 years of their life to campaign for something. And this was given to me on an unconditional basis, completely unconditional basis. But frankly, it was given as a reward for campaigning for Brexit for 27 years.

Whatever the reason – Reform can rest easy knowing that while they would’ve been splashing the Guardian and Mirror on any other day, Labour has done them all a solid. Chapeau!
