Sir Keir Starmer’s desperation to get down with the kids hit new lows in the run up to the local elections. The Prime Minister’s team genuinely think that the best way to bring the ‘real Keir’ to the youngsters is bypassing the lens of the evil right-wing media and heading straight to… TikTok! Given its links to Beijing, so much for being the party of Sinoscepticisim…

The strategy certainly hasn’t come without risks. In January Labour issued a grovelling apology for posting a video on the party’s page featuring a song with, shall we say, controversial lyrics. The tune in question, ‘Montagem Coral’ by DJ Holanda, discusses giving young women drugs before sleeping with them, alongside the joys of beer and marijuana. Given Labour’s squirming on grooming gangs, that seems poorly-timed, to say the least.

Then, in a separate gaffe, Sir Keir’s account tried to big him up to Britain’s yoof as a military hardman. Our poor PM was captured in a series of shots, gazing in admiration at British military aircraft. Only the background track to that video was ‘Money for Nothing’ by Dire Straits. Social media users were quick to point out the irony…

Now, in the latest gaffe, one of Sir Keir’s youthful TikTok wizzes has decided to put together a montage of the Prime Minister showing various world leaders around No.10. The background music is ‘House Tour’ by Gen Z star Sabrina Carpenter. The catchy song is a metaphor for allowing a series of individuals into her home to be taken to bed by them. Should it be any surprise that Ursula von der Lyon and Emmanuel Macron are among the first to be told ‘I just want you to come inside?’

Talk about re-engaging with Europe by the back door…
