Who will be the next President of the United States? Donald Trump will, alas – and I mean alas – not be able to serve a third term. Unlike his Democrat opponents, Trump won’t do an ‘Obama’ and install a brain-dead puppet whose strings he can pull…
‘I’ve said this before … people would ask me, “Knowing what you know now, do you wish you had a third term?” And I used to say, “You know what, if I could make an arrangement where I had a stand-in, a front-man or front-woman, and they had an ear piece in and I was just in my basement in my sweats looking through the stuff but I could sort of deliver the lines but someone else was doing all the talking and ceremony – I’d be fine with that…’ – Obama
I mean, it’s a funny idea, but I can’t for a second imagine who Obama had in mind for such a delicate role…
So, no, I don’t think Donald Trump is interested in installing a puppet.
If Trump could run for a third term, I have no doubt he would win easily, making it four straight wins in a row.
Oops! My mistake. Not sure how that slipped in…
Anyway, Trump would far prefer his successor to be a great President in their own right. Fortunately, unlike the woeful Democrats, there is no shortage of inspiring candidates to choose from inside the Republican ranks.
At the moment, there are two obvious candidates to seek the 2028 Republican nomination: Trump’s increasingly popular Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and Trump’s Vice President, JD Vance.
JD Vance is a self-evident potential choice. It’s not often that VPs become President, but it’s not unusual either. However, only four have been elected from the position of Vice President. The others assumed it through resignation or death of the sitting President, including assassination. If the insane left, or the Iranians, or whoever else, keep trying to bump Trump off, JD could find himself as President before this term is out. Let us hope and pray that that is not the case.
That said, for some time now my money has been on Marco Rubio. Indeed, more than my money. I have a bottle of wine on the outcome with the Spectator Australia columnist James Allan, who is a keen JD Vance.
For me, the gloss came off JD Vance firstly during his misjudged reluctance to get involved in decapitating the Iranian regime, and secondly due to his close relationship with the increasingly creepy and kooky Tucker Carlson, who has gone from a Trump and Israel cheerleader to a Trump and Israel hater. At one point he called Trump the anti-Christ and relentlessly demeaned Israel to the point, in my opinion, of outright antisemitism, which of course he denies. Just like he also denied calling Trump the anti-Christ.
My concerns about JD Vance began way back when he launched his bizarre verbal attack on Zelenskyy in the White House. Although Trump then joined in, if you actually watch the tape back it’s pretty clear that Vance was itching for a scrap and he was the driving force behind the skirmish. And then you throw in the recent failed talks in Pakistan, which to be fair, were never going to produce any positive results, and Vance’s star is clearly, currently, on the wane. That’s not to say he may not bounce back, or more likely, be a strong candidate a decade or so into the future.
The events of last week cemented in my mind, and in the minds of many Americans, what I have been feeling at a gut level since last year. Online memes and polls are now confirming it…
Looking more likely. https://t.co/5OtKnXQ3nE pic.twitter.com/lGXF1h8NM2

The next Republican presidential nominee is favoured to be Marco Rubio and, in all likelihood, in my opinion, the next President of the United States.
The genius of Donald Trump is that, despite being a billionaire born with a silver spoon in his mouth and a New York aristocrat, he has the unique ability to communicate and empathise with, and relate to, the everyday working class or middle class American man or woman.
What the Trump haters, the Trump Derangement Syndrome mob, and particularly the useless Australian TDS commentator class see as vulgar and crass behaviour is in fact a genuine and irrepressible warmth Trump feels for what we used to call the great unwashed. Trump can serve at the drive-thru window of a McDonald’s burger joint and it looks authentic because it is authentic – he’d rather be dining at Mickey D’s than at some posh New York fancy restaurant.
You can’t fake that sort of authenticity, as it were.
JD Vance is genuinely from poor white trash, as documented in his Hillbilly Elegy autobiography, and he too, communicates brilliantly with the everyday American. Marco Rubio, too, is from fairly humble immigrant Cuban stock and similarly is at ease as an everyday communicator. Both JD and Marco have great senses of humour, a key trait that has been elevated to political mastery by their erstwhile stand-up comedian boss.
For me, Marco Rubio has clearly pulled ahead of JD Vance on political intuition. He supports the necessity to de-fang the Iranian regime and understands the importance of America’s critical role as the West’s policeman and the West’s enforcer.
That role has been abdicated for several decades in place of the pathetic and defeatist concept of ‘managed decline’ – a concept that has been the guiding principle of Labor and many Liberals in Australia.
‘Managed decline’ is the one and only talent that the Albanese government is skilled at – hastening the decline of this great nation which was once a proud ally, friend, and deputy sheriff to America. No longer. Wong and Albanese have disgracefully trampled all over that precious relationship.
I digress…
Last week Marco Rubio, only half tongue-in-cheek, stood in for White House Press Secretary the brilliant Karoline Leavitt – someone else who may one day aspire to the presidency. Handling a frequently hostile media is something that both Trump and JD excel at, but Marco took to the task with relish, gusto, good humour…
It was lively, it was fun, and he soon had the press eating out of his hand. What stood out was Rubio’s ability, even more so than Trump, to tackle any question on any topic and cut straight to the heart of the matter with simplicity and everyday eloquence devoid of all the jargon and spin we associate with most politicians…
Here he is on returning fire on Iranian fast boats in the Strait of Hormuz.
SECRETARY RUBIO: Only stupid countries don’t shoot back when you’re shot at. And we’re not a stupid county.
The redline is clear – if Iranian boats threaten Americans, they’re going to get blown up.

His matter-of-fact plain speak is also evident on his moral clarity on the UN and on the war in Iran
YES! Marco Rubio just absolutely tore into the UN.
The United States is putting the United Nations on notice, over the failure to condemn the Islamic Republic of Iran or to take any action.
In my opinion, the corrupt UN should be defunded entirely but if they fail to pass… pic.twitter.com/Jq2dG6dRTy

Wow. Listen to this man. Sensational. A must listen.
Listen to him talk about the Iranian People
“The regime has crushed this country, and isolated it from the rest of the world. And it shouldn’t be because it’s people are PHENOMENAL”
“Imagine you’re an Iranian, you’ve got an… pic.twitter.com/uLHTkM6E1H

But his plain speaking isn’t only in English. In a country where 45 million people speak Spanish at home, Rubio has an unsurpassed advantage…
Marco Rubio just took on another job, he’s now an interpreter. He speaks Spanish to Latin Leaders
"I think I'm a good interpreter!"
Time to get loud for @SecRubio
If you strongly support Marco Rubio and everything he’s doing to help keep America safe, drop a “?”

But that aside, what has always been the hallmark of Donald Trump has been his unwavering consistency of opinion, sometimes over decades, combined with an uncanny ability to foresee likely outcomes. It’s an ability he shares with Marco Rubio, as this clip from 2015 demonstrates when Rubio reacted with pure clairvoyance to predicting the outcome of Obama’s insane JCPOA nuclear deal with Iran…
Will never get tired of sharing this.
Never forget that @SecRubio called the Iran situation 11 years ago.
He analysed it and predicted it.
Like a play-by-play, to a tee.
The accuracy is absolutely mind-blowing.It’s worth sharing again, because there are still some people… pic.twitter.com/IdtTcmdhRE

Rubio detailed pretty much everything that has happened in the last eleven years, it is extraordinary. Most politicians are great at hindsight. But it’s only truly gifted politicians who are great at foresight. Rubio, like Trump, has that gift. I’m not sure JD Vance does.
And speaking of foresight, at that press conference the other day Rubio was asked a simple question about his vision for America. It’s a question that has floored many a presidential candidate in the past, including George Bush senior, who was mocked for his inability to cope with ‘the vision thing’. Not so Marco Rubio. Here he is unscripted, off-the-cuff, and straight from the heart…
This may be the most articulate response I’ve ever heard to this question. pic.twitter.com/ndPULk09pT

Ladies and gentleman, I give you the next President of the United States of America, Marco Rubio.
As I said, I first hopped on the Rubio train well over two years ago. Indeed, there is often one decisive spontaneous moment that defines a politician. For me, this was the moment I sat up at took notice of Rubio. It was six weeks after October 7, 2023, and already the moral relativists of the ratbag left were defending Hamas and denigrating Israel. Marco Rubio didn’t have a bar of it.
THIS is Moral clarity.
Rubio a little while back telling it straight ??
Unbelievable levels of “based” as the kids say. pic.twitter.com/BsEaHeNdF1

Now that’s what I call moral clarity. Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Piers Morgan, Penny Wong, Albanese, Tony Burke and all the rest of you miserable moral relativists from the left and from the right be warned… President Rubio is coming.
