NSW Leader Mark Latham has released a statement on his Facebook account regarding an extraordinary intervention to remove him as the state’s party leader. One Nation insists that ‘no one has been sacked from the membership’.
The decision has been put down to a poor performance at the last state election. Pauline Hanson wrote:
‘At the state election in March 2023, there was a 14 per cent swing against our party vote from the previous election. There is still no good explanation as to why this occurred given that we had two MLCs in the state Parliament, a fully resourced NSW branch office and disillusioned conservative voters abandoning the Liberal Party … these are serious questions that need to be addressed.’
Latham’s relationship with the party has been strained since a series of online comments were made earlier in the year.
A spokesperson for One Nation confirmed this morning that Mark Latham has been removed from his role as NSW leader. The party considers this position to be open.
‘The new executive’s priority is a comprehensive review of the party’s organisation ahead of future election campaigns, with a focus on the relationship between the organisation and Parliamentary wings of the party, and the performance of the Parliamentary wing,’ read a statement released by One Nation.
‘The national executive of the party has also declared vacant the position of NSW parliamentary leader while the review takes place. No one has been sacked as a member of One Nation.’
