Three months ago Robert Jenrick, the party’s Treasury spokesman, put out an advert looking for a new chief economic adviser. The lucky man who fills that vacancy is Mitchell Palmer of the Adam Smith Institute. A Kiwi, he has served a special advisor to David Seymour, New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and member of the ACT Party. Palmer helped draft Jenrick’s big Monday speech on overhauling welfare that seems to have gone done well with the public. With conference season in a fortnight’s time and a make-or-break Burham Budget on the horizon, Team Jenners will no doubt be grateful for the extra pair of hands.
