For all the hashtags, halo-polishing and sloganeering, the left has abandoned women.

Their willingness to sacrifice women and girls as soon as the situation go against their ideological dogma is blood-chilling.

The latest and blatant example of this reptilian insouciance is the murder of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, who was allegedly stabbed multiple times by a repeat felon, Decarlos Brown Jr, on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On the face of it, one would expect the Left, which shrouds itself in the cloak of compassion, to be outraged by the senseless killing of a female refugee from war-torn Ukraine.

The media, largely left-leaning, would surely vent their outraged spleens about toxic masculinity, the history of violence against women, the need for female-only trains, or the embarrassment that a young woman who survived war in Ukraine was killed on a train in a Democrat city in a Democrat state in the US. Surely…?

No – the leading left-wing media simply ignored this.

America’s mainstream legacy news outlets are accused of remaining silent for weeks.

Compare this to the way these institutions reacted to the Daniel Penny case or the George Floyd case, or other high-profile cases that propelled the BLM movement – around-the-clock coverage, endless thinly-veiled editorials that insinuate racial motives, and deliberate obfuscation of truths to fuel this narrative was the mise en scène.

When, finally, some of these increasingly non-mainstream outlets grudgingly reported on this not-so-new news, the Mayor of Charlotte called for compassion for the killer, did not mention his littered criminal history, and praised the media for not sharing the footage of the savage murder.

When Axios reported on the matter, they had the headline: Stabbing video fuels MAGA’s crime message. CNN’s takeaway from this killing is how ‘baldly racist’ some of the comments around the story have been, in their opinion.

This exactly underscores the extreme Left’s absurd but unyielding victimhood pyramid – if the alleged perpetrator is black, he must be cast as a victim, even if the victim is a female refugee. The Left’s narrative about race trumps their so-called championing of females. Hence, the story of Iryna Zarutska’s death has become an inconvenience to The Narrative.

If this was the age before the internet, the left-wing media would simply have ignored the story, as they see themselves to be not reporters of facts, but the legislators of what the public can know. Because they were forced to report on it, they immediately pivoted to racism and what the ‘extreme right’ would use it for – with no self-awareness that the Left often selectively and mendaciously use tragic cases for political ends.

The story, like many others, is problematic to the Left as it forces them to face the reality that it is their slipshod laws that allowed Brown to be on the train.

Brown had been arrested 14 times prior and been diagnosed with schizophrenia. He was placed into involuntary commitment by a relative, who refused to have him stay. The court released him two weeks later.

Zooming out, even Axios reported that, based on latest FBI data, all but one of the top 20 cities with the highest homicide rates have Democrat Mayors.

The Left’s sacrifice of women is endemic. They were happy to sacrifice women to defend their lax border policy. Laken Riley, a 22-year-old student killed by an illegal immigrant in 2024, achieved notoriety. But there are many more women killed by illegal immigrants whose names are largely unknown, because the media do not report them. When they do, like the case of Zarutska, it is inevitably framed as an annoyance that the Republicans can use against the left and impede them from building their fetid Utopia.

I first noticed this tendency with Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a perfect model of a feminist hero if there ever is one. She was ‘let-go’ by the leftists in the Netherlands, even as her friend Theo Van Gogh was ritualistically murdered on the street of Amsterdam for making a short film with Ayaan highlighting the mistreatment of women under Islam. Faced with death threats and thwarted attacks, instead of feminists and leftists backing her to the hilt, they thought she was causing too much trouble. Eventually she had to seek refuge in the US in 2006.

But Even in the US, she was never supported by the mainstream left or the mainstream feminists.

The appalling grooming gang scandal in the UK, where at least tens of thousands of young girls have been serially raped and drugged by mainly Pakistani gangs for decades, highlights the heartlessness of the Left. When ex-Labour MP Ann Cryer tried to bring awareness of this issue in the early 2000s, she was patronised and maligned by her party and the left-wing media. In 2017, another female Labour MP, Sarah Champion, was forced to quit her position on the Shadow Cabinet when she stated research should be done to examine why the perpetrators are largely Pakistani. Earlier this year, Stamer’s Labour government refused to have an inquiry into the grooming gang situation in Oldham, even as the Oldham Council unanimously requested an inquiry.

JK Rowling, once darling of the feminist left, was instantly branded as a transphobe when she disagreed with the idea that biological sex is just a construct and that primary school-age children can be taught this and be gleefully encouraged towards irreversible mutilation if they show any gender confusion.

Riley Gaines, the US swimmer who stood up to having been forced to compete and share change rooms with biological men, is constantly derided and attacked.

Graham Linehan, for wanting to defend his daughters and women from the increasingly shrill trans-lobby, was hounded for years by activists, and was recently arrested by five armed police in the UK for two posts on X.

All of the people I have mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg, representing millions of women who endure this kind of abuse from the Left. They are the brave ones who have risked putting their heads above the parapet, whereas political ‘leaders’ are too cowardly.

Like King Agamemnon’s daughter Iphigenia, or Andromeda, the princess of Aethiopia, women and girls are offered with hands trembling with fear by leftist leaders as sacrifice to placate the sacred and wrathful ‘gods’ of the Left – the worst of the self-pitying, self-righteous, and increasingly intolerant and violent ideologues aiming to destroy the west, using its goodness and kindness as weapons upon itself.

For those who still judge the left by its reputation rather than its actions, it’s high time to take a closer look and pick a side.
