Although I do not harbour a principled objection to the writing (and reading) of memoirs – in fact, I enjoy reading memoirs – I am often suspicious about their contents and wary of the interpretations of reported events by their authors. If memoirs are well-written, they might offer interesting, and sometimes surprising, insights into the lives of people, their achievements, and failures.
