George Pell is dead. Although he was 81, no one would have predicted it. The Cardinal who had had to suffer more than a year in prison as a consequence of charges that should never have been laid and who was ultimately exonerated by the unanimous judgment of the High Court died of a cardiac arrest following a hip replacement operation.
