How many like me?

So to all those Liberal MPs, and perhaps to Barnaby Joyce and the Nats, here’s something you need to consider, and consider now. How many voters are like me and will never, under virtually any probably circumstances, vote for a party led by Malcolm Turnbull? My hunch, as someone who predicted Malcolm’s lack of success way back last September after the coup, is that the Libs will suffer a massive defeat at the next election if Malcolm leads them into it.

Those of us so-called ‘Delcons’ (and note that I treat that label as a complimentary one) who for the first time in our lives preferenced Labor this past week will not switch back if Malcolm is again at the helm. Worse for the Libs, a fair few long-time Liberal voters who held their noses, had a couple of double bourbons, and voted for Malcolm this time will have seen his lack of grace on election night, will have read about the awful election campaign and the decisions to boycott Sky and give next to no interviews with the main right-of-centre broadcasters and all the other campaign bloopers from the ‘geniuses’ who ran this effort and they will vote to get Malcolm out at the next election, unless the caucus does so first.

So there you have it all you Liberal MPs. Get the man out now, or we’ll get him out next election. Can anyone doubt the latter of those options? And Barnaby, knowing this you and the Nats might want to suggest to the Liberal MPs that Malcolm needs to go.

As for a replacement, I personally do not want to see someone chosen who was one of the 54 pusillanimous defenestrators who seemed to get his or her sense of the Liberal Party’s best interests from what was trending on Twitter and from the billion dollar a year behemoth that is the incredibly left-leaning ABC (or from both together in the form of the tweets at the bottom of the screen when Q&A is showing). Good call guys. Really well done. Anyway, time to fix that mistake, and the sooner the better. Or the voters will do it for you.
