The Spectator invites you to a private evening view of the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts.
Now in its 248th year, the Royal Academy’s 2016 Summer Exhibition continues the tradition of showcasing a kaleidoscope of artwork from painting, sculpture and photography to printmaking, architecture and film. Held without interruption since 1769, the Summer Exhibition is the largest open submission exhibition in the world, displaying works by emerging and established contemporary artists.
Following Royal Academician Michael Craig-Martin’s success in 2015, leading British sculptor Richard Wilson RA coordinates this year’s exhibition which he says will be “unpredictable, stimulating and startling.”
Highlights will include work by some of the most successful contemporary artistic duos, including a large-scale suspended kite sculpture by Heather and Ivan Morison, prints by brothers Jake and Dinos Chapman, and an atmospheric photographic installation from Jane and Louise Wilson.
Celebrate the arrival of summer with the show that’s marked the start of the art world’s summer season for almost 250 years. Visit the exhibition after hours on Fridays and Saturdays as part of the RA Summer Nights programme and enjoy a drink from one of our bars or simply soak up the evening ambience in our Courtyard.
A £25 ticket includes drink on arrival, a talk from an RA expert and a private view of the exhibition.
