Megxit: meet the new Obamas

If only the Queen had been in charge of Brexit we may have avoided rolling heads, rolling eyes and years of utter dismay.

On Saturday, Buckingham Palace released a statement informing us that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer use their HRH titles.

In the statement, the Queen said, “they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”

The couple will not receive public funds for royal duties when they do step in part-time.

They will be spending the majority of their time in Canada.

It’s also reported they will repay the £2.4milliontaxpayers spent on renovating Frogmore Cottage.

We’re told this new model will commence in the spring of this year.

However, in a statement released on their website SussexRoyal.com just minutes after the Palace announced they were quitting royal life, the pair still referred to themselves as “The Royal Highnesses”.

So, they haven’t lost anything then?

What a farce.

Interestingly, just days before Vanity Fair published a sickeningly fawning article claiming, “Harry and Meghan Are Now Free To Become Obama-esque Global Superstars”.

“The Sussexes have long been on a path to transition from rank-and-file royals to global superstars, in the vein of their friends George and Amal Clooney, Barack and Michelle Obama or Beyonce and Jay-Z,” it oleaginously oozed. “These larger-than-life couples belong not to one institution or industry, but have elevated themselves into a sphere all their own, mixing philanthropy, politics, entertainment … and business.”

Pass the sick bucket.

They haven’t “long been on a path” to anything.

Ultimately, the Queen put her foot down and steered this deal to repay taxpayers’ money to protect the brand of The Firm.

Harry was born a royal.

He was, and always will be Prince Harry.

And Meghan isn’t a lawyer, neither is she a talented singing superstar in her own right; she’s an actress with just one big credit to her name.

They may not be receiving public money, but they will forever be trading off Harry’s birth family name.

Loud cries of “racism” over supposedly “unfair” media coverage of Meghan has underlined the gulf between real people and the woke brigade, who are full-time employed in seeking offence and finding “racism” everywhere there’s air.

This isn’t a rebellion. It’s a cop-out.

This couple will never struggle – and anyone with common sense is bracing for an onslaught of photo ops and a fiercely progressive agenda.

They want to create a virtue-signalling utopia.

Unfortunately, this transition into the new Obama’s may not be quite as seamless as Meghan, in particular, may wish…

Meghan’s father Thomas Markle is soon set to break his silence in a documentary on Britain’s downmarket Channel 5.

Grab the popcorn.
