The middle-class leftist activism that you now encounter every day in Australia and the West has a major flaw. It is vague about the future. Amid all the protests and demonstrations, you can’t avoid knowing what leftists are against. But what precisely are they agitating for? Do they ever reflect on the practical results if their campaigns achieve their goal? Do they ever give the faintest hint that they know life in their brave new world will be far more spartan than it is now? Or is agitating for change an end in itself?

Perhaps, if they give it any thought, they dimly imagine some sort of harmonious Arcadia purged of racism, white supremacy, transphobia, Pauline Hanson and so on and blessed with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and eternal peace under the beneficent supervision of the United Nations? The details can wait. But the details matter and anyone tempted by leftism should want to know how, exactly, life would be changed if net zero were reached or the ‘Voice’ lobby had won or if sport were full of teams of pretend ‘women’ or oil stopped or puberty blockers were handed out like Smarties or Israel were annihilated (where will the Israelis go?) or if Islamism were steadily gaining political power.

The last prospect is already under way and without the assistance of bourgeois keffiyeh-decked ‘anti-Zionists’. Demography is ensuring that. While Australians of white descent abort themselves out of existence or refuse to reproduce because it costs too much or they want to ‘save’ the planet, Islamic philoprogenitiveness is forging ahead. Importing Mum and Dad and your cousins and your aunts on ‘family reunion’ visas is playing its part too. All will have votes.

How will that work out for white pro-Islam enthusiasts? Will Airhead – sorry, Australian – of the Year, Grace Tame, be shoved into a burqa, forcibly married off to someone who looks like the late Ayatollah Khomeini’s uglier elder brother to join his collection of wives, and ordered to remain in respectful silence for the rest of her life (some would think a rare upside to Sharia governance)? Will Queers for Palestine be invited to sit on the council of the local mosque or to apply for the post of muezzin? Would a queer be safe up that minaret? Will the social interferers in alliance with governments who are helping Islamists into power by making ‘Islamophobia’ a cardinal sin be formally thanked for their efforts or cast into the darkness of dhimmitude?

Or picture the Teal voter in a salubrious suburb under leftist revolutionary rule. Will his faith in net zero be a consolation when the comfort he values in middle age is unattainable with the heating shut down and a cold shower to start each winter day? When there’s no way of cooking the ersatz steak new food regulations prescribe (eaten by candlelight unromantically but necessarily with wax dripping all over the costly teak table from IKEA) except with the primus stove the family used on camping holidays in less prosperous days? That was  before they could afford a holiday home overlooking a sea that stubbornly refuses to rise as instructed by climate experts – or acquire the ‘investment property’ that new Greens-inspired ‘renters’ rights’ legislation is stopping them getting those defaulting tenants out of (no wonder, thinks the Teal loyalist, there’s the shortage of places to live that Four Corners was going on about when people treat rental property like that, though he doesn’t agree with the ABC that it’s the fault of far-right landlords).

And what if that same voter had himself to ‘pay the rent’ on a house he thought he owned but which turns out to be on ‘unceded stolen land’ that the Commission for the Expulsion of Settler-Colonialism (established by national treaty) intends to ‘re-acquire’? And he’s further taxed for ‘reparations’?

That would be quite a burden, the more so if inflation and the general collapse of the economy meant his reduced income didn’t go as far as it used to while his expenses are higher, what with three children at university, two daughters at an expensive residential college and the son in a ‘share house’ he has no income to pay his share of, nor is likely to have with his busy schedule of ‘Smash Hanson’ and pro-Pal demonstrations and the unlikelihood of finding a job when eventually he graduates with a degree in eco-cinema. Is that the vision of life the Teals were promising their constituents?

What other leftist hobby-horses would give scant satisfaction if turned into reality? The Republic? That’s a bit of a dead duck given that effectively we already have one what with a woman in a pantsuit as head of state and little sign that King Charles, despite his woolly nostalgia for Geelong Grammar, could care less. The rampant republicanism once evidenced in useless conventions and the insistence of leftist historians that ‘the Palace’ was up to its neck in the martyrdom of St Whitlam is ebbing away with the last whimper of elderly leftists maintaining their rage.

‘Domestic abuse’, that is abuse of women by males in leftspeak, is something leftists are especially vocal in denouncing as a cause of national shame as though it happens in every non-leftist home. Presumably it will be prevented, when leftists achieve their nirvana, by placing husbands and ‘male partners’ on an offenders register before they have had the chance to abuse anyone and if necessary by putting them in ankle chains (the female to keep the key) as convicts were in the early days of the invaders’ occupation of ‘so-called Australia’. If it’s going to be remotely like that, the details are not encouraging. No wonder leftists don’t shout them from the housetops.
