The great mystery of conservative politics is whether or not the Liberal Party will survive Net Zero.
Mark Speakman’s latest interview is a bad omen.
Net Zero is not up for debate in the moderate-held NSW Liberals.
Speakman wants to keep it all in ‘the centre’ which is not, in his mind (at least), ‘Labor-lite or Woke’.
‘I mean focusing on the issues that matter to everyday people, like cost-of-living, housing, transport.’
So… mass migration and Net Zero?
Or is the NSW Liberal Party going to nip around the edges like a pond full of Koi, looking pretty without doing anything other than swim by the cameras occasionally?
‘Net Zero has been Coalition policy since 2016 in NSW; we should not go back on that.’
What if it’s wrong? That is the accusation. Is the Opposition Leader saying that once a policy is carved in stone, it is left there?
We understand it’s easier to keep pivoting to ‘building metros’ or ‘unlocking housing’ but the public have woken up.
While Speakman stays quiet and Ley keeps listening, Donald Trump is reforming the global energy sector with Executive Orders and Nigel Farage is about to usurp the oldest conservative party in the world.
Australians are watching this happen and wondering why the NSW Liberals are sound asleep, cuddled up to Chris Minns.
Everyone knows that Net Zero is dying off. It is experiencing an extinction level event across Europe and America. In the Global South, green energy projects are propped up via Western aid facilitated by a UN which is obsessed with climate goals.
Heck, even the Taliban are getting in on the grift. Using observer status at the last COP conference, they tried to get a slice of the $300 billion offered to developing countries for ‘climate change’. Their talk was called, ‘From isolation to inclusion, Afghanistan’s urgent call for climate action…’
It’s worth quoting the Taliban to highlight how absurd, shallow, and insane the entire climate change ideology has become.
‘We appeal to the UN, major global powers, wealthy nations, and those whose greenhouse gas emissions have impacted our environment, to assist us in preserving our environment and in providing better services to the Afghan people.’
This is an Islamic terrorist regime that reduced some of the most important human relics to rubble because of religious jealousy and an incurable inferiority complex. Yet when they mouth ‘climate change’ the UN nods very seriously in reply.
Our politicians continue to view the UN with reverence … why?
Never mind all that, the NSW Liberals are sticking with Net Zero because they think it’ll be popular at the election.
How disappointing that their thought process revolves around electability rather than reality.
‘I agree with broadly what they said about the Liberal Party being the custodian of two great traditions: a conservative tradition that respects our tried and tested institutions, but has them adapt over time; but also a liberal tradition that focuses on empowering individuals … it’s enterprise, rather than government, that creates wealth.’
A ramble, to be sure, where Speakman misses the point that Net Zero is a key feature of the self-inflicted cost-of-living crisis.
‘No Coalition MP has said to me we should abandon Net Zero at a state level so I’m not giving advice about what they should do, but at a state level, there is no suggestion.’
As one comment on The Australian reads: ‘May as well vote for the Greens if that is the policy platform of the so-called Libs!’
They say Mark Speakman is constantly looking over his shoulder for a leadership challenge, and that the only reason he hasn’t been rolled is due to a lack of talent in the NSW Liberals.
See if you can name two members of the NSW team. Yeah. That’s what I thought.
