Charlie brings Musk and Trump together

X CEO Elon Musk has been spotted sitting next to President Donald Trump at Charlie Kirk’s memorial this morning.

The two were extremely close in the opening months of Trump’s presidency during the creation of DOGE and the crackdown on government waste and corruption.

Elon Musk also restored Trump’s X account and finally allowed conservative voices to campaign after more than a decade of restrictive ‘community standards’ rules being used to silence dissent on Covid, Climate Change, and DEI.

This decision allowed other social media companies, such as Facebook, to follow. It was during this time that Elon Musk made public the government requests, from the Democrats and nations such as Australia, to silence ordinary citizens for speaking the truth about public policy. It was proof that yes, governments had attempted to manipulate social media to protect themselves.

Musk is credited with allowing a youth revolution in favour of conservatism to take place and, ultimately, secure the White House.

It was on these platforms that Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA reached through the swamp of propaganda and empty influencers to students. He challenged their beliefs, a few minutes at a time.

When Musk’s idealism had to confront Trump’s real-world politics in The Big Beautiful Bill, the pair fell out. Since then, they appeared to reach somewhat of a truce, abstaining from further social media comments attacking each other.

In recent weeks, Trump has been in Europe and the UK, lecturing their dictatorial governments about the consequences of cracking down on free speech. Governments which seek to censor social media and/or fine and imprison its CEOs will find America cold to their other needs. For Europe, whose Coalition of the Willing is begging Trump for help with Putin, this is a major friction point.

The desire to control the flow of information outside mainstream news outlets has led to so-called ‘child safety’ laws. These pieces of legislation have immediately been used, particularly by the UK and Australia, to interfere with political expression and active news items.

The liberation of social media from eSafety regulations masquerading as ‘safety’ is seen as critical to the preservation of democracy against the rising force of the Left.

Elon Musk even made a rare appearance at the patriotic marches in the UK led by Tommy Robinson.

Speaking to a crowd of over a million, Elon Musk said:

‘I believe you can’t get to the truth of things without freedom of speech, without active debate. And there’s so many on the left that want to just crush debate and put people in prison just for talking, as you were, just for speaking their mind.

‘The essence of democracy is it should be a government for the people, by the people. And in fact, this is a government against the people and not for the people. This is why everyone is gathered here today – something’s got to be done. This is unacceptable.

‘The government needs to be responsible to the people of Britain. It needs to protect Britain. It needs to protect the weak, those who cannot protect themselves, especially the children. And when I read about some of the horrific stories and how the government did nothing and tried to hide it – they tried to hide these horrific crimes.

‘And then you see how much violence there is on the left with our friend Charlie Kirk getting murdered in cold blood this week and people on the left celebrating it openly. The left is the party of murder and celebrating murder. I mean, let that sink in for a minute. That’s who we’re dealing with here. That is who we’re dealing with.’

While Charlie Kirk will soon be laid to rest, those who remain behind in power must decide how to go forward with the preservation of speech in a world whose governments desire silence.

To be clear, censorship is not a TV host losing their job for lying on the screen or a teacher sacked for celebrating murder. Nor is it a college student who went on TikTok and demanded the assassination of Trump, Musk, Shapiro, and Rowling only to be kicked out. Destroying vigils while taunting a crowd of mourners with a re-enactment of murder is not okay. These have always been signs of unacceptable behaviour in civil society but somehow, over the last 20 years, it has been normalised by the left.

How can you have free speech if the audience wants to brawl?

The Black Lives Matter years of burning, looting, murder, desecration of monuments, hate crimes against businesses and individuals … it was a warning that something had gone wrong with the Left. The Left who chose as their hero for young people an inexcusable criminal. No one shut them down. The West let their depravity play out while the press called them ‘mostly peaceful’ with the world on fire behind them. Police knelt in respect at the feet of people who wanted them dead. And the State wonders why ordinary people felt unsafe.

Now is the time to have a conversation about the Left.

About why it is that political violence is seen as funny, desirable, and normal for a generation raised in the most peaceful and prosperous age in human history. Why do they want to kill instead of speak? What is it about ignorance that leans into violence as a response?

We need to talk.

And yet here we are, with Labor bringing forward severe censorship laws in December first put forward by the Liberals.

Seriously, what are you doing?
