Dear President Trump,
I write to you as an Australian citizen deeply concerned about the dangerous direction of our government under our leftist Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese.
Labor’s decision to formally recognise Palestine as a state at the UN General Assembly is not only a betrayal of our ally, Israel, but a reckless capitulation that emboldens terrorists like Hamas.
I understand that Mr Albanese is seeking a meeting with you. I implore you to use your leadership to steer Australia back toward reason and strength, saving us from the folly of a government that is moving us closer to communism while destroying free speech and rewarding Hamas.
Just days ago, Mr Albanese joined Canada and the UK in claiming this recognition advances a ‘two-state solution’. But this move is a slap in the face to Israel and a lifeline to Hamas, whose senior official, Ghazi Hamad, boasted that the atrocities of October 7, 2023 – 1,400 murdered, hostages tortured – were a ‘victory’ that paved the way for such diplomatic wins.
Hamas has openly celebrated this recognition as a fruit of their violence, vowing to keep their weapons until Jerusalem falls. The Palestinian Authority’s vague promises to sideline Hamas are meaningless when the terrorists themselves see this as validation of their savagery. Meanwhile, anti-Israel protests worldwide continue to glorify the massacre as a ‘shift in the balance of power’.
In Australia recently, our judiciary enabled pro-Palestine supporters to walk across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge waving Palestinian flags. While doing so, one displayed a portrait of Iran’s Supreme Leader. Following the cowardly attack on October 7, 2023, the Sydney Opera House was the scene of antisemitic protests that were allowed to happen while our police stood by focusing on one man with an Israeli flag.
Our country is being held hostage by a government with only one third of Australians’ support while Israeli hostages remain in captivity.
Mr Albanese’s decision to recognise Palestine ignores warnings from US Republicans, who rightly cautioned of ‘punitive measures’ for undermining America’s stance. Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, called it ‘shameful’ and a delusional act that rewards terror instead of fostering peace.
Here in Australia, Jewish leaders have decried Mr Albanese’s move as an abandonment of hostages still suffering in Gaza. By prioritising virtue-signalling over principle, Mr Albanese is fracturing alliances, endangering our security, and inviting more violence to our doorstep.
Mr President, your unwavering support for Israel – evidenced by moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and brokering the historic Abraham Accords – restored strength and clarity to a world plagued by weakness. Your leadership showed that standing firm against terror yields results.
Now, as Mr Albanese’s naivety alienates allies and emboldens monstrous foreign regimes, we need your resolve more than ever.
I urge you to pressure Australia to reverse this dangerous course, imposing measures if necessary to realign our nation with the values of the free world.
America once saved Australia. I am asking you to please rescue Australia once more.
Your decisive action can restore sanity and protect the West from leaders who appease this evil Hamas-led regime. I ask this humbly on behalf of all Australians who value liberty and justice and our friendship with Israel and the United States.
Yours faithfully,
Dr Michael de Percy
