A funny thing happened on the way to the Eurovision Song Contest. The ethereal Russian Israeli entrant –Eden Golan – placed fifth out of 25 in the competition. Given the sniping that Golan had to endure from other contestants and governments representatives, it was a remarkable achievement.

Ireland’s appropriately named Bambie Thug was incensed that the Eurovision organisers had allowed Israel to compete at all.
