In this newly created role, the Digital Sales Director’s primary responsibility will be to create and implement a strategic business plan that will ensure maximum digital advertising revenue across the Spectator and Apollo portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate, lead and implement a cutting-edge digital advertising strategy across the Spectator and Apollo portfolios
  • Be the key contact for driving digital commercial revenue across all platforms
  • Manage relationships with all relevant media agencies. Either personally or through the wider team
  • Grow revenue through new category business and high-level creative solutions
  • Provide senior counsel on creative briefs across the wider commercial team, helping to conceive and develop premium commercial packages
  • Liaise and work closely with other departments to establish the best business practice to maximise digital revenue without damaging the brands. Namely editorial, marketing and production
  • Consistently be on top of shifting media trends, establishing new and innovative ideas across all relevant digital platforms and develop long-term strategic goals for the department accordingly
  • Promote overall excellence through innovation, creativity and effectiveness
  • Interpret and analyse statistical data to maximise selling opportunities, monitor competitive activity and provide regular progress reports to the Group Commercial Director and key stakeholders
  • Collaborate, educate and support the wider team to push new and innovative ideas across all relevant digital platforms
  • Pro-actively identify digital trends and competitor activity and develop appropriate short and long-term strategic goals accordingly
  • Participate in industry events and conferences


Skills/Requirements:

  • Minimum 4-5 years of digital advertising sales along with 4-5 years of other media sales experience
  • BS / BA degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Management experience required
  • Dedicated and driven work ethic
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Comfortable making presentations to all size groups
  • Outstanding computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the nuances of the digital media sales process
  • Experience in selling programmatically, setting up PMPs, commercialising podcasts, vodcasts, monetising mobile and app advertising in addition to the more traditional online sell
  • Capable of developing and selling unique, innovative and custom integrated solutions and campaigns for our advertisers and partners
  • Able to think creatively, sell strategically, and communicate effectively internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to perform all related job responsibilities
  • Ability to educate traditional media sellers regarding digital sales
  • Ability to cultivate and manage agency and client relationships
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines, and learn and apply new concepts and tools quickly
  • Possess high degree of business and personal integrity
  • Ability to lead other sales managers to achieve desired performance for themselves and their sales teams
  • Ability to manage and interpret data
  • Ability to set high expectations and hold others accountable to them.
  • Must function at a high level in group leadership situations.
  • Self-starter who seeks to take on projects and additional activities, while ensuring core responsibilities are met.
