Oh heaven save us!!!
Every EU country has a commissioner. There are 28 in total. They are all appointed to a particular brief. Lord Hill was in charge of financial services up until the point that he resigned. Dombrovskis is Latvia’s commissioner. He had the brief for the Euro and for social dialogue. He will be moving to the financial services brief.
Sir Julian King, who has been nominated by David Cameron to be the new UK commissioner, will likely be appointed to the security brief.
There will still be 28 commissioners, because there are still 28 members of the EU. Sir Julian King will be the UK’s commissioner. Sir Julian King is not Latvian.
Is it really that difficult to understand?
