It’s official. Former Nationals Leader Barnaby Joyce has abandoned his brief stint as an independent and joined One Nation as a Lower House MP.

He will remain in this position under the 2028 federal election when he will become the lead NSW Senate candidate.

One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson made the announcement on social media while visiting Barnaby Joyce in his local electorate in Tamworth.

It follows a sustained polling shift showing One Nation rapidly cannibalising the ideologically confused broad church Coalition which spent months trying to decide if it would oppose Net Zero and is yet to come out with a coherent migration policy.

One Nation popularity sits anywhere from 13-16 per cent.

This is a nightmare scenario for the Coalition, who are this week batting away musings from former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull about whether or not the moderates should break away and join with the Teals into a new movement.
