This week, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese pledged $100 million of hard-earned Australian taxpayer money to ‘establish a new Pacific Resilience Facility to mitigate climate impacts’ among our neighbours. This largesse, which is money Australia does not have and will simply be added to the ever-growing Labor tab, is being handed out willy-nilly in the hope of snaring the idiotic Cop 31 Climate Change conference for Adelaide in 2026. Now, admittedly, there are plenty of South Australian hotels, restaurants and vineyards that will do very well out of the fifty thousand-odd people who will fly in for this junket, and we have no desire to deprive them of that bonanza. But sadly, no matter how much of a short-term boost there is to certain fortunate businesses, the harsh reality is that hosting the climate gabfest will only impoverish this nation and further delay the inevitable moment of realisation that the entire climate change and renewables mania is an unaffordable fraud that only serves to line the pockets of certain already extremely wealthy grifters at the expense of everyday Australians.
Above all, the Cop events (the anagram stands for ‘Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change UN Climate Change Conference’) are a massive swindle that ooze elitist hypocrisy mixed with large doses of unctuous political humbug and virtue signalling.
Last year, for example, Cop 30 was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, a wealthy petro-state that cheekily did its best to use the opportunity to flog its oil reserves to the luvvies. (The fact that there have already been nearly thirty of these annual conferences does kind of give the game away.) The problem for the United Nations organisers of these shindigs is always the location, and for good reason. Following several years in which they foolishly selected northern hemisphere locations where it was never a good look having the delegates photographed shivering in the cold, they nowadays prefer to choose some place hot so the delegates can all be photographed with sweaty armpits thanks to ‘catastrophic global boiling (sic)’. Most such locations with suitable luxurious accommodation are of course in wealthy Arab states. Thus, recent locations were Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, and this year it’s off to Belém in Brazil., the so-called gateway to the Amazon. Let’s hope UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres doesn’t repeat his favourite trick of wading into the shallows to show that sea levels are rising or he might find his privates attracting the unwanted attention of nutrition-starved piranhas.
As for the Adelaide bid, hotly contested by Turkey, Labor would probably have been better off nominating Broome or Darwin but perhaps Chris Bowen was merely keen to keep Penny sweet.
Cop 26 in Glasgow, in 2022, was of course the freezing cold location where then prime minister Scott Morrison betrayed every Coalition voter, and indeed every Australian, by abandoning his repeated commitment at the 2019 election to not do any more on climate change and instead, at the behest of his bed-wetting colleagues, committed Australia to net zero. The Coalition has lost every election since, and will continue losing until they come to their senses and abandon the net zero folly.
But the whole purpose of these annual junkets is of course to provide visual propaganda to promote the globalist cause of ‘combatting climate change’. By providing every year hundreds of photos of seemingly important people all getting together, these frauds endlessly promote a sense of urgency and moral significance as they go about the business of what is nothing more or less than a ‘renewables’ trade fair paid for (as everything to do with climate change is) by the humble taxpayer and household consumer.
Which takes us to Greta Thunberg. It was back in 2018 at Cop 24 in Poland that 15-year-old school truant Greta first appeared on the climate stage. Her appearance was a great success, so they repeated it a year later at Cop 25 in New York, where her infamous ‘How dare you!’ speech lambasted the world’s leaders for not immediately halting all use of fossil fuels. She even sailed on a yacht to that event in order to prove her commitment to zero carbon emissions.
And this week? It was the perfect metaphor. Proving what a publicity hound she really is – long having tired of her climate obsession and now preferring far ‘sexier’ pro-Palestinian activism – Ms Thunberg headed a massive diesel-fuelled flotilla to Gaza. Alas, one of the idiots on board set off a flare which malfunctioned and set the boat on fire. Then they all lied and claimed that it was a drone that had attacked them, implying Israeli aggression.
These people are publicity-seeking Marxist activists peddling hard-core leftist propaganda. If Cop 31 does come to these shores, it will be every bit as moronic and as fraudulent.
