The left no longer have any arguments, they cannot win in the battle of ideas, and so they attempt to stop their political opposition through violence and intimidation. This was demonstrated recently in the United States at the Battle of Berkeley rally for free speech, however what the left didn’t count on was its opposition being prepared for their attacks and fighting back.
The left also found this out today when Andrew Bolt was due to launch The Art of the Impossible: A Blog History of the Election of Donald J. Trump as President by economist Steven Kates at a restaurant in Carlton. The event was co-hosted by The Unshackled along with our friends at Connor Court Publishing.
It was a lunchtime event attended by 50 eager ticketholders present to relive and celebrate one of the great achievements of modern politics against the odds. Despite opposition from the entire political establishment, Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. They were also eager to hear and meet in person Andrew Bolt, one of Australia’s most prominent conservative commentators, and surely Melbourne’s finest.
It was Midday and we were all awaiting Andrew’s arrival, which we had been informed was minutes away. I was very nervous myself as MC for the event, as I wanted to put on a good show for the attendees as well as for the speakers. Then all of sudden a familiar face at these events rushed up to me to tell me Andrew Bolt had just been attacked on his way in by two assailants and had thrown punches at him.
My heart sunk, this was not the welcome I wanted Andrew Bolt to have to our event. After our initial reaction of shock and horror we learnt that Andrew was fine and that the event would proceed as planned. Andrew emerged after cleaning himself up, he had been doused with red and blue dye. But undeterred, like he has been for his entire career he emerged to give his speech almost unflustered.
We soon learned that it was his attackers who came off second best, Andrew courageously fought back and sent the cowards running. We also learned that there was a third person who was there to film the attack for the assailants, it was clearly a well-planned ambush. Andrew commented after he fought back that whichever group arranged this attack, they would dare not release for fear of their members being exposed as weaklings who can dish it out but can’t take it.
Andrew tonight on the Bolt Report played CCTV footage of the attack which showed just how vicious the assailants were, but it also demonstrated how well Andrew fought them off. He will be posting images of them on his blog with anybody who recognises them as part of their usual leftist thug mob to contact North Melbourne Police.
It was a confronting event given the current climate we are in, terror at home and abroad and the violent left and criminal gangs roaming and ruling the streets of my home city in Melbourne thanks to an inept Premier. Andrew started by talking about the new fascism in obvious reference to what just happened, but then offered us hope through what we had witnessed last year in United States and by God we need an event like that here.
In the back of my mind I did wonder if something could happen to Andrew, the details of the event were publicly available. I even blamed myself for the attack as maybe I promoted it too much, it also made me wonder if antifa, the Socialist Alternative or some other leftist group were now monitoring the activities of The Unshackled and saw this a perfect event to strike and create fear. Of course, in a free society a person such as Andrew Bolt should be free to attend whatever public event he likes and not be assaulted, he shouldn’t have to resort to having personal security or secret appearances but this is state of our society today.
The rest of the event proceeded without incident, given that to be in the event itself you had to purchase a ticket, it prevents any of these thugs entering the venue. The Unshackled is just entering the field of holding events. It is clear with our triggering and confronting articles we are attracting the attention of the left who are determined to halt our rise and now it seems also to disrupt our events. But we are undeterred, we knew what we were getting ourselves into when we started, the battle is too important not take part in. Our only concern of course is for others and it still saddened us that this unpleasantness happened to Andrew. If the leftist thugs want to take us on we will fight back, just like those in Berkeley did and Andrew did today.
